Ten commitments for responsible practice
Ten commitments for responsible practice
People’s safety comes first. A systemic reading never justifies keeping a person in a situation of danger or violence. In case of suicidal thoughts: 3114.
Ten commitments
- State the status: do not present a claim from the tradition as a fact; the effectiveness of constellations has not been demonstrated.
- Inform and obtain free and informed consent, with the freedom to stop at any time.
- Respect contraindications: suicidal crisis, psychosis, dissociation, unstabilised trauma, ongoing violence. Do not offer a constellation; refer on.
- Make no diagnosis, promise no cure, do not replace medical or psychological care.
- Do not induce guilt: an illness, a bereavement, a failure or a termination of pregnancy are not the fault of an ancestor or of the client.
- Do not practise under a title you do not hold: “psychologist” and “psychotherapist” are protected titles in France.
- Refuse any coercive control or sectarian abuse: no pressure, no dependence, no incitement to abandon a treatment (Article 223-1-2 of the French Penal Code, law no. 2024-420 of 10 May 2024).
- Protect: report and refer on in case of ill-treatment of a minor or vulnerable person (119; Article 434-3 of the French Penal Code).
- Protect data and respect confidentiality; know the difference with professional secrecy (Article 226-13 of the French Penal Code).
- Train and be supervised: peer supervision, supervision, keeping knowledge up to date.
Emergencies (France)
- Psychological distress, suicidal thoughts: 3114 (24 hours a day).
- Immediate danger: 15, 17 or 112.
- Child in danger: 119.
- Domestic violence: 3919.
Outside France, check the emergency numbers of your country.
